Four Day Week
The reason that Sweetwater#1 implemented the four day work week is to do what is best for students and increasing student achievement and success. With teachers having time, more planning, more opportunities for quality PLC time, keeping teachers in the classroom, and hopefully decreasing fatigue and burn out with some time off, it will in turn benefit our students first and foremost.
The purpose of the four (4)-day week was to provide the following to our staff:
- Uninterrupted Professional Learning Community (PLC) time;
- More time for planning;
- Professional development opportunities that limit teacher absences from the classroom, therefore keeping teachers with their students. This doesn’t eliminate an occasional PD during a student contact day, but the goal is to limit them significantly because we know keeping the teacher with the students is best; and
- Also give our staff time for more balance between family and work.
There are a lot of changes with the 4-day week. When we focus on priority standards, going deep with our teaching, quality teaching over just quantity, we will make a difference for our students in a positive way.
