Principal’s Message:
Welcome to Independence High School, an Alternative High School and part of Sweetwater County School District No. 1 located in Rock Springs, WY. IHS is an NCA accredited high school providing students with the opportunity to earn and recover credits as they pursue completion of graduation requirements. I hope that you enjoy this newly developed web site in which you will discover more information about our school.
We are proud of our students. In addition to taking a full schedule of coursework, most of our students successfully hold jobs in the community. For many students, attending school and being employed represent a reality and necessity not universally required of high school students and it speaks positively to the commitment and grit of our students.
Our hard working staff includes approximately 22 full and part-time employees (including special education teacher, counselor, nurse) and classified staff. The learning community at IHS is energetic and inclusive. At IHS, all the students are everyone’s responsibility. Communication is an essential piece of daily life at IHS and it is honest, direct, and focused.
Independence High School is a school that is “home” to many students. It is a positive and accepting environment where students and adults work together toward the attainment of a common goal…high school graduation and a better, brighter future.
