Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Overview
The Wyoming Department of Education adopted the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) as a statewide system to improve schools. Sweetwater School District #1 is the first district in Wyoming to use Positive Behavior Support Program at a K - 12 level. PBS is designed to improve academics by creating a positive school climate and by reducing problem behaviors.
PBS uses teaching, reinforcement and prevention-based strategies to instill positive behaviors in students. PBS focuses on creating environments that promote positive behaviors as being more effective than problem behaviors. PBS uses a collaboration team to develop effective interventions. The team develops a menu of interventions for use with different intensities of behavior.
At East Jr. High, we have begun implementation of "STOP and THINK," Howieknoff, social skills. These are used with all students to promote positive social skills, such as listening, following directions, dealing with anger, dealing with rejection, etc.
